Leadership Club: We will be having an important trip meeting this evening at 6:00 p.m. in Mr. Moulen’s room. This meeting is for all students and their parents who are traveling to Costa Rica.
Student Council Food Drive: This week and next, we will be having our annual food drive. The items will be donated to the Community Center. We always have a TON of food and items to donate and they are always very appreciative.
GT Math: The Annual Challenge Plus (G/T) parent nomination forms are due back by this Thursday, 3/15/18. Please have students turn them in to the main office or they can be turned in to Mrs. Urban.
Band and Chorus News: It’s a busy month in the band and chorus realm. Make note of the following dates in case you want to attend one of these wonderful concerts!:
The 6th Grade Band and Chorus concert will be rescheduled. Please look for an email from Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Andrade as our original reschedule date will not work. Please note: The concert will NOT be held on Thursday, March 22nd, as stated in a previous email from her.

5th grade band news: We will have three full band rehearsals to prepare for our upcoming concert. Please mark these dates and be sure your child has their instrument! Thank you for your help! Students have concert music to practice in addition to their assignments! The remaining date is: Monday, March 19. SPRING CONCERT: Tuesday, March 20 @ 7 p.m. in the WPAC.
Spring Picture Day is coming up on Wednesday, March 28th. Students will bring home a form this week that will allow you to choose a pose and a background. NO MONEY needs to be sent in with this form. Students will get their pictures back in April and they will be sent home for you to look at. If you choose to keep some or all of the pictures, you will send in the appropriate payment at that time. If you do not wish to purchase pictures, please send them back to the school for collection.

Laptop News: If you were not able to attend the MLTI meeting and you are a parent of a 7th grade student who has not attended a previous meeting, a video has been posted on the WMS website (westbrookschools.org) that you will be required to watch. Our next meet will be on Monday, 3/19, at the Community Center against South Portland. The meet will start at 4:30 because South Portland gets out of school late. Next Friday 3/23, we are away at the Biddeford Y.M.C.A. This is a late meet at 7:00p.m. That means that the swimmers will go home right after school and return to Westbrook Middle School to catch a bus at 5:30.It is the only time this year that this will occur. Please make me aware of any issues.Thanks in advance. We will also swim at Riverton on 3/30.
Indoor Track: The second meet of the indoor season resulted with a victory over King and Windham middle schools. Saturday saw Westbrook’s Sarah Muka set a new record in the sr shot with a throw of 35’3” (breaking her new record set earlier in the same meet). Other first place finishers for the girls were Graca Bila (hurdles), Rose Dihn (hurdles), Haley Ball (600), Lilly Ranco (440), Madison Boucher (shot), Karla Melgar Chinchilla (240) and the 7th grade relay. On the boy's side first place finishers were Herlin Martinez (hurdles), Aidan Pecoraro (hurdles and the open 100), Bronson Damon (440), Raheim Burke (shot), Reid Garber (hurdles), Tristan Rost (40 and 300), Jakob Neptune (240), William Kosoff (440) and the 7th and 8th grade relay teams. To those reading, scoring takes place in each division (except the open mile, 1000, and high jump). That is why you see multiple same place finishers for the same event. Wrestling: Meet cancelled for tonight. Practice/meeting with Mr. Maken 3:00 - 4:00 p.m. @ WMS. Athletes will be participating in a tournament on Saturday, March 17th, @ Sanford HS. Bus leaves @ 6:00 a.m.

Spring sports sign-ups will begin today. All students wishing to participate in a spring sport should check their email and fill out the form to sign up. All students must have doctor’s proof of a recent physical (within the last 2 years) and turn in completed athletic paperwork. Any student who has NOT participated in a sport this school year must click on this link: WMS Athletic Participation Forms & have these forms filled out and signed by a parent or guardian. We offer the following spring sports: Girls & Boys Outdoor Track – Open to grades 6.7 & 8; Girls & Boys Lacrosse – Open to grades 7 & 8 only; Girls Softball – Open to grades 7 & 8 only; Boys Baseball – Open to grades 7 & 8 only
Students wishing to participate in sports MUST complete the Athletic Participation Form and must have written proof of a physical within the last 2 years.
