Good Morning! Today is Monday, March 19, 2018. It is a White Day. 




Student Council:  2:45 - 4:00 p.m. in Mrs. Boynton's room


5th & 6th Grade Drama Club:  Cancelled for today


8th Grade Math Team:  Will meet tomorrow morning at 7:00 a.m. in Mrs. Urban's room.


Kaleidoscope Club:  Will meet tomorrow after school in Mrs. Slote's room


Guitar Club:  Tomorrow from 2:45 - 4:00 p.m. in Ms. Trace's room


PAWsitive Club:  Will meet on Thursday this week


Student Council Food Drive: Continues this week, we will be having our annual food drive. The items will be donated to the Community Center. We always have a TON of food and items to donate and they are always very appreciative.  


Band and Chorus News:  It’s a busy month in the band and chorus realm.  Make note of the following dates in case you want to attend one of these wonderful concerts!:


The 6th Grade Band and Chorus concert will be rescheduled.  Please look for an email from Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Andrade as our original reschedule date will not work.  Please note:  The concert will NOT be held on Thursday, March 22nd, as stated in a previous email from her.


March 19 (Monday) - Westbrook Jazz Night (Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Band) 6:00 p.m. @ WMS PAC

Come and enjoy a night of special music and all that jazz!


March 20 (Tuesday)- 5th Grade Band and Chorus Spring Concert 7:00 p.m. @ WMS

March 27 (Tuesday) & March 28 (Wednesday) - Concert Band Fest. (WMS Wind Ensemble & 7th Concert


5th grade band news:  We will have three full band rehearsals to prepare for our upcoming concert.  Please mark these dates and be sure your child has their instrument!  Thank you for your help!  Students have concert music to practice in addition to their assignments!  The remaining date is:  Monday, March 19.  SPRING CONCERT: Tuesday, March 20 @ 7 p.m. in the WPAC.


Spring Picture Day is coming up on Wednesday, March 28th.  Students will bring home a form this week that will allow you to choose a pose and a background.  NO MONEY needs to be sent in with this form.  Students will get their pictures back in April and they will be sent home for you to look at.  If you choose to keep some or all of the pictures, you will send in the appropriate payment at that time.  If you do not wish to purchase pictures, please send them back to the school for collection.

Laptop News:  If you were not able to attend the MLTI meeting and you are a parent of a 7th grade student who has not attended aprevious meeting, a video has been posted on the WMS website ( that you will be required to watch.  After watching the video, please call the main office at 854-0830 to speak with Principal Wood regarding the video.

Indoor Track  Results: 


The second meet of the indoor season resulted with a victory over King and Windham middle schools. Saturday saw Westbrook’s Sarah Muka set a new record in the sr shot with a throw of 35’3” (breaking her new record set earlier in the same meet). Other first place finishers for the girls were Graca Bila (hurdles), Rose Dihn (hurdles), Haley Ball (600), Lilly Ranco (440), Maison Boucher (shot), Karla Melgar (240) and the 7th grade relay. On the boy's side first place finishers were Herlin Martinez (hurdles), Aidan Pecoraro (hurdles and the open 100), Bronson Damon (440), Raheim Burke (shot), Reid Garber (hurdles), Tristan Rost (40 and 300), Jakob Neptune (240), William Kosoff (440) and the 7th and 8th grade relay teams. Here is a list of other top 4 finishers (scoring points):

For the Girls:

To those reading scoring takes place in each division (except the open mile, 1000, and high jump). That is why you see multiple same place finishers for the same event. Congratulations to all and all that participated!


Swimming Results:  


Looking Ahead to the last two weeks of swim.......

*We have a meet at home today against South Portland. It will start at 4:30 at the Community Center.

*Friday- 3/23 We have an away meet at Biddeford Y.M.C.A. against Kennebunk. This is a 7:00 meet which means that the swimmers will go home after school and return back to W.M.S. at 5:30 to catch the bus to the meet.After the meet is over the swimmers can take the bus back to W.M.S. or they can go home with their parents. Remember to sign them out.

*Banquet Information-The Banquet will be on Wednesday 3/28 from 4:00-5:00 at the Community Center. We will have our last swim practice that day from 3:00-4:00. We will then get out of the pool and transition to the Pine room for our banquet. The banquet is for swimmers only.

*We are asking swimmers for a $5.00 from each swimmer for pizza.You can send that in at any time.We would also like each swimmer to contribute something to the party:

Grade 8- Dessert
Grade 7-Drink( Capri Sun type drinks are Awesome!)
Grade 6- Chips

*Girls Final Meet- 3/29 @ South Portland Rec. Department 4:30 start time.
* No boys practice that day. Girls Only

*Boys Final Meet- 3/30 @ Riverton Pool in Portland 4:00
* No girls practice that day. Boys Only




Wrestling:  3:45 -  5:15 p.m. here at WMS

Indoor Track:  3:00 - 4:30 p.m. 

Swimming:  Home meet vs So. Portland @ Davan Pool starting @ 4:30 p.m. 


Spring sports sign-ups will begin today.  All students wishing to participate in a spring sport should check their email and fill out the form to sign up.  All students must have doctor’s proof of a recent physical (within the last 2 years) and turn in completed athletic paperwork.  Any student who has NOT participated in a sport this school year must click on this link  WMS Athletic Participation Forms & have these forms filled out and signed by a parent or guardian.  We offer the following spring sports: 


Girls & Boys Outdoor Track – Open to grades 6.7 & 8

Girls & Boys Lacrosse – Open to grades 7 & 8 only

Girls Softball – Open to grades 7 & 8 only

Boys Baseball – Open to grades 7 & 8 only
