Good Morning!

School is now in session.   A reminder that Homeroom starts at 7:45 a.m. and our regular school day ends at 2:30 p.m.

For those who have yet to come to our building during school hours, we now are totally locked down during the school day.  If you need to come in to the building to dismiss your child or drop off an item, you will have to press the button on the column just in front and to the right side of the front doors.  You will then be buzzed in to the foyer to either sign out your child or drop off your item.  If you need to come in to the building for a meeting or event, you will need to sign in and get a visitor badge as usual.

To sign up for Daily emails and Thursday folders, please  click on the following link:!forum/wmsfolders/join. You'll be prompted to either confirm that you want to use the Google account they are logged in with OR to enter the email address you want to use to subscribe.

Bathroom Quotes: Please join us for a start-up meeting of the "Beautify our Bathrooms" effort on Monday, October 1st, at 3:15 at the middle school. We'll be discussing and planning a project to add inspirational quotes in both our girls' and our boys' bathrooms on the first floor. This is a challenging age, and we want our kids to see and hear positive messages everywhere they can, even the bathrooms! We are hoping for a diverse group of parents, students and teachers so come one, come all!

Leadership Club:  Come see what we are all about! We run fundraisers at school that are fun for all our students. Students in the club earn money towards the cost of trips either local or abroad. Travel is a very important way to open your child's eyes to the world, and our service driven fundraisers give our members a sense of purpose and accomplishment.  Our  first evening meeting for parents and students is this  evening @ 6:00 p.m., in Mr. Moulen' s room (A205).   We will be discussing fundraising ideas and possible destinations.

Crayola ColorCycle:  WMS is excited to announce its participation in Crayola ColorCycle – an amazing program devised to turn used markers into energy! All around Westbrook Middle School students and teachers will be collecting used markers (including dry erase and highlighters) that are ready to be discarded. The markers will be sent to a facility where they will be converted into clean fuel. This fuel can be used to power vehicles, heat homes, cook meals and more! Please help support our efforts by sending your kids in with any used markers you may have around the house – even non-Crayola brands. Drop-off boxes will be located around the school for your child to deposit the markers. Thank you in advance for participating in our effort to increase sustainability! Happy recycling!

WMSXC traveled to Windham on Wednesday to compete with Windham, Moore, Lincoln, and Friends School.  The girls ran the tough course first, which included a trip into the woods, where drastic hills and tree roots challenged each runner.  7th Grader Haley Ball ran most of the race in second or third place, keeping within 10 yards of the leader at all times. Toward the last quarter mile, Haley turned it on and outpaced the others to win first place with a time of 10:46.  6th Graders Megan Garber and Ella Giguere cracked the top ten, with times of 12:35 and 13:11 respectively.

Following the girls were the boys.  Aidan Pecoraro (8th Grade) led the first part of the race, losing his lead but maintaining his spot in second right to the end of the race. He finished with a time of 9:56.  Danny McCartney (7th Grade) and Noah Wiley were not far behind, finishing in 10th and 11th places and with times of 11:24 and 11:29.
